Project Diaz : A Timeless and Classical Renovation
This full turnkey renovation encompassed the living room, kitchen and dining area, bathroom and circulation spaces within a duplex dating back to the first half of the 20th century.
The property had not been maintained for decades and required a complete reset. Nearly all existing elements were removed, as very little could be integrated into the new design. Yet from the outset, we recognised the remarkable architectural potential of the space — defined by ceilings exceeding three metres in height and generously proportioned rooms.
Restoring Architectural Presence
To honour the period character of the duplex, we introduced bespoke mouldings throughout the property. These were carefully proportioned to emphasise the ceiling height and enhance the sense of volume.
A classic herringbone floor was selected to anchor the design with timeless elegance, reinforcing the historical dialogue while remaining refined and enduring.
A Moment of Contrast
While the primary living spaces maintain a classical and composed tone, the bathroom was conceived as a bold counterpoint.
The design began with a hand-painted basin discovered in a coastal town in Spain. This singular piece set the tone for the room. Around it, we introduced Yves Klein blue walls and Moroccan zellige tiles — creating a space that feels expressive yet curated, eccentric yet controlled.
A Personal Living Room
The homeowners are passionate readers and devoted rock and roll enthusiasts. We wanted their living room to reflect both comfort and character.
The walls were painted in a deep slate tone, creating an intimate and calming atmosphere. Custom shelving was integrated to accommodate their extensive collections of books and music, transforming the room into a space that feels both personal and architecturally grounded.
The result is a home that balances classical structure with expressive moments — a dialogue between timeless design and individual identity.
